California Senate Bill 70 (SB 70) was created to improve and strengthen California's Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

Through an SB 70 grant award, the El Dorado County Career Technical Partnership (CTP) was formed.  The CTP executive committee was tasked with the mission to:

  • Develop new programs for high demand career technical opportunities, including those in emerging industries

  • Standardize articulation among the community college, high school, and ROCP programs statewide through collaboration

  • Develop a teacher industry-based externship program to increase teacher knowledge and their ability to apply core academic and career technical education content standards into the curriculum

  • Create effective programs of study in relevant courses that are aligned with the content of regional CTE programs

  • Create a series of lesson plans (modules) that are articulated directly into community college or apprenticeship programs

  • Increase teacher knowledge about course sequences, career pathways, and opportunities for accelerated education

  • Support student career exploration within targeted industry sectors

  • Develop high school course plans with the student within a career pathway based on the student's interests, aptitude, and aspirations.

  • Career pathway suited to student interest

  • Improved academic performance

  • More students will go on to postsecondary education

  • Postsecondary students will persist in and complete community college programs

  • Students will be prepared to meet the workforce needs of the region

  • Increased understanding of the concept of sustainability and how to create careers and lives that do not endanger the viability of the environment
