Seating is limited.  To register and to reserve a testing seat, contact Kris Rohde at the El Dorado Union High School District Office at the number above.

Students are required to attend only one of the two testing dates.

On exam day, students should report directly to Room B-125 at El Dorado High School at 8:30 a.m. The exam begins at 9:00 a.m. Students will begin the test together. Late arrivals will not be allowed to test. The computer lab will be available for students to complete the exam through 2:00 p.m. (Although the exam should not take 5 hours, the allotted time should give all students every opportunity to finish.)  If a student has not finished by 2:00 p.m., they may turn in the portion of the exam that they have completed. Each student will leave the classroom when they have completed the exam. Supervision outside of the classroom is not available.  A pay phone is available if needed.  Due to the length of the test, students are encouraged to bring a snack.

ABOUT THE EXAM Successfully passing this examination will meet the Computer Literacy and Applications graduation requirement.

This practical exam will test students on computer literacy and application standards. The exam is based on the El Dorado County Technology Standards document, which the EDUHSD School Board approved as the district computer literacy and application requirement. Computer Technology 1 parallels the El Dorado County Technology Standard document and meets the graduation requirement for entering freshman students. This challenge exam will require students to demonstrate mastery of the following:

  • File management
  • Desktop publishing
  • Word processing (participants will be expected to create, in Microsoft Word, a Modern Language Association formatted document with an embedded table)
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • PowerPoint graphic presentations
  • E-mail
  • Internet research
  • Moral and ethical practices involving Internet use (multiple choice)

Every student interested in the challenge exam needs to look closely at the El Dorado County Technology Standards and the district Computer Technology 1 course of study,  which includes the computer literacy and application standards, and decide if they have the necessary knowledge to pass the challenge exam. Students are required to pass all eight sections, with a minimum of 70% in each section.

ALTERNATIVES FOR NOT PASSING
ALL SECTIONS OF THE EXAM
Students should contact their Counseling Office for information on alternative action if he or she does not pass all of the eight required sections of the exam.  Alternatives may include:
  • After-school modules (for students who pass at least 6 of 8 sections)
  • On-line courses
  • Computer Technology 1
  • Self-study
  • Retake challenge exam anytime it is offered
After reviewing the El Dorado County Technology Standards and the Computer Technology 1 course of study, you and your child need to make a decision regarding how this graduation requirement will be addressed. We hope that those students ready to take this exam join us on May 29 or July 2, 2007.
