Katie Hewitt is the newest Biology teacher at Oak Ridge High School, and is looking forward to working with such talented colleagues and students. A graduate of El Dorado High School, she went to UCSB to pursue a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Italian. She is conversationally fluent in Spanish and Italian and enjoys travel to broaden her language skills and cultural awareness.
Her teaching career began as a naturalist at the Coloma Outdoor Discover School and continued at the Santa Cruz Outdoor Science School. She transitioned to classroom teaching in 2011, teaching Biology, Earth Science, and AVID at Westmont High School in Campbell, CA. Hewitt loves teaching because of the opportunities to help students develop character, learn new skills, and succeed both in and out of school. She was very happy to move back to El Dorado County to be closer to family and the natural beauty of the area, as this February she stepped into her newest role: mom!
