_______ * The State of California mandates that the first priority for Summer School enrollment be given to students requiring remediation. **The State of California limits the funding for Summer School enrichment programs to 5% of the District's enrollment. |
BACK TO TOP |
| Students earn 5 credits for each semester. Students can earn a maximum of 10 credits total in summer school. | |
BACK TO TOP Q4. How will a student know if they are accepted into a class? |
An informational letter will be mailed to the student 2 weeks prior to each semester. This letter will inform the student if they have been accepted into Summer School. If your student is accepted into Summer School, he/she will be instructed on how to obtain their schedule. |
BACK TO TOP Q5. What will be the daily schedule? |
Class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and dismiss at 12:30 p.m. There will be a 30-minute lunch break for students. A light lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. |
BACK TO TOP Q6. Where should students report on the first day? |
Students should report to the classroom indicated on the posted schedule. Student schedules will be posted on the Administration Building windows the Friday prior to the first day of Summer School. |
BACK TO TOP Q7. Can a student miss the first day of a semester in Summer School? |
If a student is not in attendance at the beginning of class on the first day of classes, he or she will be considered a Ano show@ and a student from the waiting list will be given the space in that class. Please do not call to excuse your student from attending the first day or ask to hold their space if they cannot attend the first day. |
BACK TO TOP Q8. What is the absence policy for Summer School? |
Because 1 days of Summer School instruction is equivalent to 1 week of regular school instruction, your student is expected to attend Summer School daily. A student is withdrawn from school if he or she accrues more than 8 hours of absence. Students not in attendance on the last day of each semester will not receive credit for the term. |
BACK TO TOP Q9. Due to state funding limitations, bus transportation will not be provided by the District, except where mandated by an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). |
BACK TO TOP Q10. Are lockers provided? |
| No. Students must bring their materials with them each day. Do not leave materials in a car as the parking lots are out-of-bounds. | |
BACK TO TOP Q11. May students bring visitors to Summer School? |
Visitors are not allowed during Summer School. |
BACK TO TOP Q12. High School Readiness Program. |
Students who enroll in the High School Readiness Program will attend the first or second semester of Summer School. Students who do not achieve all of the standards during the first semester will have until the conclusion of the second semester to meet the performance standards in Language Arts and Math. A maximum of 2.5 credits for Language Arts and 2.5 credits for Math can be earned for the High School Readiness program. |
BACK TO TOP Q13. Is campus open or closed for Summer School? |
| Summer School is a closed campus. Students are not to leave campus unless they have written parent permission and have checked out at the office. There are also boundaries on the campus in which the students must remain during school hours. Being outside these boundaries will result in the referral process outlined in #15 below. A map of these boundaries will be provided the first day of school. | |
BACK TO TOP Q14. What is the dress code for Summer School? |
Students are expected to follow the regular District dress code. Bare midriffs, open sided shirts and Ashort-shorts@ are not allowed for either young men or young women. |
BACK TO TOP Q15. What is the discipline policy for Summer School? |
All school rules for the
regular school year apply to Summer School. Students who violate
school or class policies will be given one referral with parent
notification. If we are unable to reach the parent or guardian by
phone, a notice will be sent home with the student. Upon the second
referral, the student will be sent home and withdrawn from Summer School for
the remainder of the summer.
Immediate withdrawals may be made in response to serious offenses, such as fighting, possession of illegal substances or weapons, or endangering others on campus. If a student commits an offense for which expulsion is required, they will go through an expulsion hearing which may affect their student status during the regular school year.
