volunteer with us!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the El Dorado Union High School District!
Our schools are stronger because of the parents, families, and community members who generously share their time and talents. Whether you're helping at a school event, supporting a student activity, or assisting with a special program, your involvement makes a meaningful difference.
To help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our students, all volunteers must complete the District's volunteer clearance process before participating in school activities.
We've outlined the steps below to make getting started as easy as possible.

FAQ
How often do I have to complete fingerprinting?
Just once! We hold fingerprint records while you are a parent volunteer so you do not need to repeat this step each school year.
What if I have younger child(ren) that will be a student of the school in future years? Meaning there will be a gap between students and volunteering will be conducted.
Fingerprint records are retained for up to four years after volunteering ends to help accommodate gaps between siblings. When your younger child enrolls and you resume volunteering, you must notify the school site, obtain principal approval, and complete the required Mandated Reporter training for the current school year.
We also recommend notifying HR of any anticipated gaps in volunteering so records can be maintained accurately and potential delays in future clearance can be avoided.
How often do I have to complete the Mandated Reporter training?
Mandated Reporter training is required every academic school year, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848).
At the beginning of each school year, HR provides school sites with lists identifying volunteers who need to complete the training. PublicSchoolWORKS (PSW) also sends reminders to registered users.
Do I really have to email my Mandated Reporter training to HR?
Yes. Due to the large volume of parent volunteers, it is the responsibility of the parent to email the completed certificate to the district's HR office.
What if I complete Mandated Reporter training for my job or another school district? Will this be accepted?
Yes, we accept certificates for completed Mandated Reporter training from other agencies, as long as it was completed within the current academic school year.
Do I need to complete this process for every event or school organization?
No. Once cleared, you may volunteer for approved activities throughout the academic school year without repeating the entire clearance process. For additional programs or events, the responsible teacher or administrator must submit a volunteer list to the site principal for approval.
What if I am volunteering for multiple school sites?
You only need to complete the District’s clearance process once per academic school year. However, principal notification and approval are required for each school site, event, organization, or department where you plan to volunteer.
Do I need to be cleared if I am only volunteering for one event?
Yes. Per California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848), individuals with prolonged, recurring, or unsupervised involvement with students will need to complete the entire volunteer clearance process.
Do all volunteers need to be fingerprinted even if they are being supervised by a school employee? Do I need to be fingerprinted if I am supervised by a school employee?
Yes. Volunteers who interact with or are around students must complete the full clearance process, including fingerprinting, even when
supervised by a District employee.
Is there a cost to fingerprinting, and who pays it?
Yes. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of fingerprinting. Costs vary by Live Scan location.
The District Recommends:
49er Live Scan
76 Main St, Placerville, CA 95667.
To find other authorized live Scan locations, plesae visit the California Department of Justive Live Scan Locations webpage. Prices vary depending on the Live Scan location: https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations

If I have already been fingerprinted for another school district, or employer, do I need to do it again?
Yes. The California Department of Justice (DOJ) does not permit Live Scan results to be shared between organizations. Therefore, you must complete fingerprinting specifically for this District.
Does my volunteer clearance expire or need to be renewed?
Volunteer clearance expires at the end of every academic school year (June 30th) and will need to be renewed at the start of every academic school year (July 1st). For clearance renewal, principal approval and completion of Mandated Reporter training is required before an individual can volunteer.
Does principal approval roll over each year?
No. Principal approval is required each school year. Approval initiates the clearance process and allows HR to maintain an accurate list of active volunteers and identify those who need to complete Mandated Reporter training.
