VP

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the El Dorado Union High School District!

Our schools are stronger because of the parents, families, and community members who generously share their time and talents. Whether you're helping at a school event, supporting a student activity, or assisting with a special program, your involvement makes a meaningful difference.

To help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our students, all volunteers must complete the District's volunteer clearance process before participating in school activities.

We've outlined the steps below to make getting started as easy as possible.
getting started: volunteer clearance process

2. Complete Live Scan Fingerprinting
Once principal approval has been received by Human Resources, you may pick up your Live Scan form in-person from either:

FAQ

FAQ

How often do I have to complete fingerprinting?

Just once! We hold fingerprint records while you are a parent volunteer so you do not need to repeat this step each school year.

What if I have a gap between volunteering for my children?

We understand that families may have a few years between children attending our schools. The District retains fingerprint records for up to four years after volunteering ends to help accomodate these gaps.

When you are ready to volunteer again, simply contact your school to obtain principal approval and complete the required Mandated Reporter training for the current school year.

We also encourage you to notify Human Resources of any anticipated gaps in volunteering so your records can be maintained accurately.

How often do I have to complete the Mandated Reporter training?

Mandated Reporter training is required every academic school year, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848).

At the beginning of each school year, HR provides school sites with lists identifying volunteers who need to complete the training. PublicSchoolWORKS (PSW) also sends reminders to registered users.

Do I need to send my training certificate to Human Resources?

Yes. Once you have completed the training, please email your certificate to bpagan@eduhsd.k12.ca.us. Submitting your certificate directly helps Human Resources verify your completion and process your clearance as efficiently as possible.

Can I use Mandated Reporter training completed through my employer or another school district?

Yes. The District accepts Mandated Reporter training certificates from other organizations, provided the training was completed during the current academic school year. Simply email your certificate to District Human Resources.

Do I need to complete this process for every event or school organization?

No. Once cleared, you may volunteer for approved activities throughout the academic school year without repeating the entire clearance process. For additional programs or events, the responsible teacher or administrator must submit a volunteer list to the site principal for approval.

What if I am volunteering for multiple school sites?

You only need to complete the District’s clearance process once per academic school year. However, principal notification and approval are required for each school site, event, organization, or department where you plan to volunteer.

Do I need volunteer clearance if I am only helping with one event?

Volunteer clearance requirements depend on the nature of your involvement with students.

Per California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848), individuals with prolonged, recurring, or unsupervised involvement with students are required to complete the applicable volunteer clearance process.

Please contact your school before the event to confirm which requirememnts apply to your volunteer role.

Do I need to be fingerprinted if a school employee will supervise me?

Yes. Volunteers who interact with or are around students must complete the full clearance process, including fingerprinting, even when
supervised by a District employee.

Is there a cost to fingerprinting, and who pays it?

Yes. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of fingerprinting. Costs vary by Live Scan location.

The District Recommends:
49er Live Scan
76 Main St, Placerville, CA 95667.

To find other authorized live Scan locations, please visit the California Department of Justice Live Scan Locations webpage. Prices vary depending on the Live Scan location: https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations

I've already been fingerprinted for another employer or school district. Can those results be used?

Unfortunately, no. The California Department of Justice does not permit fingerprint results to be transferred between organizations. To volunteer with EDUHSD, you will need to complete fingerprinting specifically for our District.

Does my volunteer clearance need to be renewed each year?

Volunteer clearance expires at the end of every academic school year (June 30th) and will need to be renewed at the start of every academic school year (July 1st). For clearance renewal, principal approval and completion of Mandated Reporter training is required before an individual can volunteer.

Do I need principal approval every school year?

Yes. Principal approval is required each school year, even if you volunteered previously.
